Featuring one-handed behind-the-back shotgun action! 8D Today on Ancient DOS Games Gemini's taking a look at Blackthorne, a cinematic platformer originally developed for the SNES by Blizzard Entertainment and published through Interplay in 1994, with the DOS port being rushed out just three months after the SNES release. This is a pretty decent game for the most part. There's no major faults in the design, just quirks with the controls and internal functionality, plus a potentially game-breaking bug you need to be aware of, mind you, given the nature of progression in this game, the most this bug will do is force you to restart a level. :P ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * Here's a link to the page on Battle.Net where you can download Blackthorne and a few other classic Blizzard titles: https://us.battle.net/account/download/?show=classic * Curiously, some of the freeware games available from Blizzard (including this one) don't show up on the European Battle.Net site. :o * One thing I neglected to mention or even show is that the game has a variety of traps to content with which are often triggered by things like floor panels. They're pretty obvious once you know to look for 'em but until you do they can easily get you killed! * I probably should've moved the keyboard to the top of the screen... oh well. :P * Something VERY interesting is that the 2013 re-release is that the saving feature is actually NEW! The original 1994 DOS release still used a password system just like the SNES, but Blizzard actually put in the effort to change this into a save/continue system when they made it freeware!
