Spreads well on toast! 8D In today's filler, Gemini's taking a look at a handful of the 123 games featured in the recent DOS Games Jam held on the itch.io website between March 1st and April 15th, 2020. Most of these are not actually DOS titles, and this particular game jam was not a racing format, rather just an exhibition format, but everything here was meant to be inspired by DOS gaming to some degree, regardless of how the game was made. ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * Here's a link to the DOS Games Jam so you can download any of the games there which catch your fancy: https://itch.io/jam/dos-games-jam * Here's a link to the other "MS-DOS Game Jam #2" which was happening around roughly the same time in case your curious about those titles too: https://itch.io/jam/dos-game-jam-2 * Reminder again that the eight games selected for this video were the ONLY ones I played as I didn't have a huge amount of time to make this video. I have no idea how well any of the other games fare to the eight shown here, but there were definitely some other impressive entries for sure, just judging by some of the screenshots and GIF animations! * To clarify the reason I'm not into game jams: I just don't enjoy the idea of being overwhelmed with game selections where the states of the games are not all 100% completed, especially when it's a race to produce them as I don't enjoy speed-coding either. Again, this is just my own personal preference and I totally get that this DOES appeal to lots of people! * Also to clarify the Soul Lapse thing a little: Because foxes are my most favourite animals, I don't enjoy when games turn them into the enemy you have to fight. I understand that folklore involving kitsune in Japanese culture has some pretty wild and often malicious notions in it, so when games exemplify those malicious aspects is when I lose interest because to me, foxes are adorable and I can't bring myself to ever think of them otherwise! :3 * There was actually one other game I missed which had a fee to purchase: Capax Astra. That one however was considered "early access" by the developer only to be expanded into a full game with enough interest, which... to be honest, is kind of a backwards way of going about it. You shouldn't charge for an early access title unless you FULLY INTEND to finish it. :/ * One other thing of note about desktop compositing in Windows is that it's ONLY a factor when running a game in a window or a borderless full screen window. Running a program in exclusive full-screen mode bypasses the desktop compositor, so games run in that manner will always give you their proper framerate, although with some titles you often don't get a choice as to whether it's running as exclusive full-screen or a borderless full screen window. :P ------------------------------------------ Pixelmusement Website: http://www.pixelships.com ADG on Pixelmusement: http://www.pixelships.com/adg Alphabetical Index of ADG Episodes: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/index2.html Kris' Patreon Page: https://www.patreon.com/kasick @Pixelmusement on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Pixelmusement
