Still not entirely certain why this game is named as it is...
Today on Ancient DOS Games Gemini's taking a look at PopCorn, a Breakout clone developed by Christophe Lacaze and Frédérick Raynal of Lacral Software and released in 1988.
This is surprisingly competent breakout-styled game, especially when compared to similar indie attempts from the late 80s and even the early 90s. It has some quirks, as well as some notoriously evil levels, but is definitely one of the better such games out there!

Additional Information and Corrections:
* Here's a link to the PopCorn page on Frédérick Raynal's website:
http://www.ludoid.fr/site/index.php/popcorn
* If you're having trouble grabbing PopCorn from the above page (as it seems to be down temporarily) you can grab the game from the DOS Games website here:
https://www.dosgames.com/game/popcorn/
* Uh... when I said "Little Big Planet 2" I meant "Little Big Adventure 2". Not really sure how I made that mistake since I've never actually played the Little Big Planet games! :P
* This game's technically supposed to be using the modified the "Red/Cyan/White" CGA palette... but given that every screenshot I'd seen up to now, plus the modernized versions, use the standard "Magenta/Cyan/White" palette, it's easy to understand how I missed setting this up. You can get the correct palette in DOSBox if you set the machine type to "CGA". ;)
* Anyone have any idea why a game that's always been freeware would never actually show up on legitimate software download sites? This still has me perplexed.
* The "V" may actually stand for "vie" which means "life". When I read the translated French description of the powerup it wasn't obvious this was what the V stood for. :B
* The original game also came with a program called POPSPEED to help fix speed issues with faster systems. Me personally, I ran into nothing but problems trying to make POPSPEED work properly under DOSBox 0.74, and you can have multiple versions of DOSBox installed at a time without issue, so I just elected to use 0.73. :P
* Turns out the version included with LBA2 is modified to have zero speed issues! If anyone has access to that one let me know if it works properly in DOSBox 0.74 or not! :o
