Starting to think we've lost a TON of "programming exercises" to the stretches of time... :( Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Tube, a very simple action/racing game which started life as just an internal programming exercise for some new employees at Bullfrog Productions but was then polished a little and sent out to various gaming magazines in Europe to include on their cover CDs in 1995. It's not great by any stretch, but joins the ranks of Transland as one of those things we almost never got to see. You're gonna recognize a lot of sound effects in here as well if you're a connoisseur of Bullfrog titles! ;) ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * Here's a link to the game on the DOS Games website if you want to grab a working copy: https://www.dosgames.com/game/tube * The problem with the camera centring TECHNICALLY doesn't stop once it starts, but it is possible for it to be tricked into going away briefly and I'm not exactly certain how this happens, but may be a clue into reversing the effect. * While I was able to find the raw level layout data I didn't find anything which suggested the placement of items and enemies so that may take a bit more sleuthing for anyone wanting to make an editor for this thing. :P * So there IS technically a health bar, but it's extremely hard to notice properly as it's layered behind the bombs, is very thin, and it's nearly invisible.
