What do you get when you get a couple demoscene coders together to make a game? THIS!
Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemin's taking a look at Zone 66, a 2D shooter developed primarily by a couple members of the Renaissance demoscene group and published through Epic MegaGames in 1993.
Most DOS gamers will have played at least the shareware version of this game, which starts out extremely strong. However, much to my dismay, the quality of both the gameplay and story drop considerably by the time you reach the end of the game. Doesn't make the start of the game any less fun and the graphics and music are great the whole way through! :)

Additional Information and Corrections:
* One thing I didn't remember until late into making the video is that the Sound Blaster audio ALSO won't init properly if the system's way too fast, though the GUS support will init fine no matter what, so again, this game works out far better with GUS audio than Sound Blaster.
* One way you can cancel the Escape Mode IF you have enough fuel left following is to engage Shadow Mode. Other than that, you just have to wait for it to run out. :P
* I am aware that there are plenty of other arcade-based 2D shooters with bombing mechanics, but NONE of them play like this one. I am SERIOUSLY considering making one of those game ideas of mine as it would not be nearly as difficult to do as most of what I've been working on the past couple years...
