Video Originally Released: October 16th, 2010 ------------------------------------------ Hurray for horribly mis-synced audio and video! 8D I thought it would be a good idea to talk about the various display adapters of the 80s and 90s because this was a major point of confusion for me when I was a kid. More than once we ended up buying a game that didn't work properly because it needed EGA graphics, which Tandy computers of the time didn't support by default. :P Once you hit SVGA, things started to finally get standardized before it got way too out of hand and nowadays, thanks to 32-bit colour and 1080p, most games don't require you to have extremely specific hardware to function, it's just that the more powerful your graphics hardware is the better your framerate will be, provided it can perform all of the functions a game demands of it. ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * Yeah, I say "two-fitty-six" a few times. It's surprisingly difficult for me to say "two fifty six" multiple times in a row, or even just once, because I have to say F and TH sounds in a weird way due to how my teeth are; something I'm sure a bunch of people have noticed. :P * One ancient video card I didn't mention was the PGC, or Professional Graphics Controller, which offered 640x480 256 colour graphics long before Super VGA cards were produced... for several times the cost of a full computer system. Suffice to say, this graphics card was pretty much left untouched by gaming.
