Getting called the best "knock-off" of something isn't necessarily a compliment you should be plastering on the front of your game box...
Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look back at Isle of the Dead, a first person shooter with inventory-adventure elements developed by Rainmaker Software and published through Merit Software in December of 1993, the same month Doom came out!
Out of all the "bad" FPS games to come out of the 90s, this one's perhaps the most ambitious for what it is, given all of the extra elements it has over a typical shooter, but that unfortunately doesn't save it from being tripe, though it does at least put it on top of the tripe pile given how much worse it could've been.

Additional Information and Corrections:
* Another one of the cut animations in the CD version which was kinda important is the one which helps explain why using the rifle at first kills you, as you need to oil the rifle after you get it to make it work properly. :P
* BrutalMoose covered this game on his channel well over a decade ago if you'd like to see another take on the thing:
