Isn't it kinda weird to name your game after something in the story which spends the entire game destroyed? :o
Today on Ancient DOS Games Gemini's taking a look at Arkanoid, specifically the NovaLogic port of the 1986 arcade classic, published through Taito in 1988.
As far as gameplay is concerned, this port is pretty close to the arcade original. The sound and graphics do suffer by comparison, but all things considered they're good enough given the level of computer tech available when the port was made. About the only thing that sucks is having to play it with a mouse instead of with a proper paddle dial. :P

Additional Information and Corrections:
* There's NOT actually three DOS ports. The Firebird one which never saw the light of day was actually a C64 port! I even had it in my research notes like this so how I made this mistake is anyone's guess. (Probably just from rushing; I had VERY little time to work on this video.)
* One of the strategies you may see me using in the game footage is collecting every powerup I can. This is because every powerup is worth 1,000 points, and you get an extra life for your first 20,000 points, then for every additional 50,000 points thereafter. By contrast, I believe the settings on the original arcade version only allows up to two extra lives per credit.
* Sometimes it's not a good idea to go crazy with the Laser when you get it. If you do, you won't be maximizing your chances to get powerups. True, most powerups are pretty worthless when the Laser is active, but there's always a chance for a Break or Player powerup, plus if there's bricks behind gold bricks you may want to get a Disruption powerup going.
* You may've noticed "Jeff" in the default high scores is actually VERY low compared to the other scores. This is a common practice with arcade games so that at least one actual person can get onto the scoreboard shortly after the game is first boot up for its first time and can also help to gauge if the settings on an arcade unit are set too hard for the local players.
* BTW: Feel free to make that Gravinoid game on your own accord if you want to. Not only has my idea evolved WAY more than those original conceptual screenshots, it's not even called "Gravinoid" anymore! ;)
