This is another instance where I disagree with the majority opinion that this game is good. The story is decent and the graphics are really good. The overall game design however, including puzzle design, controls, technical aspects, and especially the combat system, all could've used a lot more work or fundamental changes.
Still, when this game came out, there weren't many other games like it, so that's probably why it's stayed as fondly remembered as it has been despite its many serious flaws.

Additional Information and Corrections:
* Here's a link to BioForge over on GOG in the event you wanna give this game a try for yourself... just consider yourself warned if you've never played it before:

* One of the things I neglected to mention is that there's no easy way to restore your health as you progress, thus even if you survive all of the combat you face, if you only survive with minimal health left each time you're going to eventually run dry on the tools you have which can restore your health. Basically, if you enter combat and lose more than a third of your health, you're probably not going to make it to the end of the game, so just reload and try the combat again.
* Another thing I didn't talk about is the voice acting... It's BAD...
