Episode Originally Released: July 24th, 2010 ------------------------------------------ While System Shock was never all that popular in the days of DOS gaming, it's since developed a cult following of epic proportions. So much so that a number of Shock fans complained about how I didn't use modern mods to add mouse look features (among others) or how I didn't mention where you could go to download "free" copies... ...yeah, I don't get that either. I try to look at these games the way they would've been played. Occasionally I recommend more modern source ports for games, but System Shock is not one of them. I much prefer this game in its fully original state. :) ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * As of late 2015, this game is FINALLY available on GOG! It comes as both the original game and a special version which has been edited to include some additional features such as mouselook and higher rendering resolutions. You can grab it from here for $10: http://www.gog.com/game/system_shock_enhanced_edition/?pp=91dfde1d6e005e422f64a59776234f1f4c80b5e4 * I wonder if anyone will get the "people-wafers" reference? :B * I neglected to mention why the mouse movement controls were cumbersome. If you watch the mouse cursor you'll notice it has special arrow symbols appear over it depending on where on the screen it is. These symbols indicate that you can move and turn by using the mouse, but these mouse controls are highly unresponsive and difficult to use so it's best to use the keyboard as much as possible. This style of movement was mostly inspired by early 3D RPGs on PCs. * Other patches I didn't mention include the Staminup which removes your fatigue for awhile so you can run and jump your best, Reflex which slows down time substantially, Sight which lets you see better in the dark, and Genius which supposedly makes the puzzles easier, but I've never understood how it works, if it even does. :P * While it is possible to keep your regenerations count at 0 just by reloading your game, doing this means having to once again fight any battles which defeated you since your last save. ------------------------------------------ Pixelmusement Website: http://www.pixelships.com ADG on Pixelmusement: http://www.pixelships.com/adg Alphabetical Index of ADG Episodes: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/index2.html
