Unboxing a sealed copy of a rare game? Sacrilege! D:
Today, Gemini's taking a look at Strife, the last commercial game to utilize the original Doom engine, developed by Rogue Entertainment and published by Velocity in 1996. While its use of the Doom engine would seem to suggest a basic first person shooter, this game has an amazing amount of content and features which sets it apart from virtually every other first person shooter out at the time.

Additional Information and Corrections:
* You can obtain the remastered game from the Good Old Games website here:

* If you prefer to get your games on Steam, you can get it here:

* Actually, I'm not entirely certain that was the original shrink wrap, for the simple fact that there was no price sticker on it. Then again, Trixter's pretty good at taking care of his software collection so he may've removed such a tag himself without damaging the shrink wrap. :B
* There's an incorrect volume fade I missed early in the gameplay footage which I wasn't about to re-render the entire video to fix. :P
* Turns out Strife:VE doesn't actually have lots of new textures. If you look at the official screenshots you can clearly see some textures have had a massive facelift, but look closer and you'll notice most of them are still the old pixelated ones. Oh well. :P
* Something I should clarify about the shareware version of Strife is that it plays out a little differently even though it has a similar beginning. Basically, the person you speak to right from the start is missing, replaced with Harris who has that mission that'll get you killed early if you follow it through to the end. What ends up happening is that you do the mission, ultimately kill Harris, and then Blackbird gets in touch with you from there, tells you to drop the chalice, you get to the resistance base, and the game ends... at least I'm pretty sure that's where it ends; been awhile since I've played that version of the game. :P
