Bonus points if you can figure out all of the references prior to the gameplay starting. ;) This week for No-Nostalgia Retro Gaming the votes plus a tie-breaker resulted in "Sam's Journey", an extremely well made modern C64 platformer developed by Knights of Bytes and published through Protovision in 2017. That said, this video's only going through the demo of the game as I don't really play any of these C64 games in my spare time and the cost of the full game is a bit too high (and rightly so) for something I have no intention of playing for more than an hour.
