The game which wasn't meant to be edutainment, and yet it was... BIG TIME... Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, one of the most popular edutainment titles every produced, originally released by Broderbund in 1985, although this video covers the updated 1990 release with enhanced graphics and sound. (Not to be confused with the 1992 Deluxe Edition.) It's curious how popular this franchise became considering how simple the original game is and how little you actually see of the main antagonist, though it came out at the perfect time to capture the educational market, which is probably the main reason why it got as popular as it did... because it sure wasn't because of the gameplay. :P ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * On second glance through my footage, I think the Library offers similar clues to the Airport and Harbour... which is kinda weird but whatever. Ultimately, you're going to have better or worse luck with specific locations based on your own preference so learning which locations give you hints you can work with the best is important! * There's several things you can punch into the Interpol Crime Computer which don't apply to ANY of the crooks, though later in the Deluxe Edition when the roster of crooks was doubled to 20, these details became more applicable.
