It's like you're playing the movies! Only... not...
Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at another LucasArts title, this time Star Wars: Rebel Assault, an FMV-based rail shooter released in 1993.
Despite being a commercial success and spawning a sequel, the game doesn't hold up very well nowadays, as most of its success can be attributed to being one of the earlier FMV titles released, back when using FMV as a gaming backdrop was still a novel idea, though that said, it's actually VERY close to being fun to play, but fails due to a very critical issue... an issue which is actually absent from the later ports! :o

Additional Information and Corrections:
* If you want to get this game (and its sequel) over on GOG, navigate your way here:

* I failed to mention a couple general mechanics regarding friendly units. The first is that you can't actually hurt friendly targets, so feel free to blast away. The second is that if a friendly target you have to protect does get destroyed, it resets the mission as though you lost a life, but instead of losing a life you simply don't get your damage levels reset... which will probably get you killed pretty quickly anyways. :P
* There's no auto-fire so be prepared to hammer the fire button repeatedly while playing. :/
