Originally Released: October 11th, 2014 ------------------------------------------ Personally, I feel this final episode for Season 3 of ADG is one of my best, but here's the crux: Jazz Jackrabbit was THE most requested game, having almost twice as many requests as the next-most requested... People absolutely LOVE this game... to the point where some of my referencing and humor actually upset some people and got me quite a number of eMails, such as in regards to the statue reference in the beginning, or the differences in liquor laws between where I live and where this game was actually made. I stand by much of what I said though, not because I'm being stubborn and ignoring the truth of these matters, which I'm clearly not doing as I just acknowledged it all above, but because spotting the things I did makes for a more interesting video! ;) As it stands though, Jazz Jackrabbit is one of the best games ever made in the days of DOS, though I will admit, its sequel on Windows 95 somehow found ways to be even BETTER! ;D ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * This game's now available on GOG for $10! They say it's the CD-ROM version, but also say it only has six episodes so... not sure what's up with that, perhaps someone can clarify this and I can add the details here. In any case, here's a link if you wish to get it, keeping in mind Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is also available from GOG now too! https://www.gog.com/game/jazz_jackrabbit_collection/?pp=91dfde1d6e005e422f64a59776234f1f4c80b5e4 * In regards to the unusual 320x199 resolution for the gameplay which, at first glance, confuses DOSBox and alters the aspect ratio, it turns out this is actually INTENTIONAL. The game itself, running on a regular CRT monitor in real DOS, produces a squished display with black bars at the top and bottom once you're in the game proper, possibly as a side effect for reprogramming the VGA registers for 60 Hz instead of the standard 70 Hz for 320x200 resolution. However, the result of this creates a 1:1 pixel aspect for the graphics, meaning the "aspect corrected" footage seen in this ADG episode is technically incorrect, since that's not how it would look on period-specific hardware. Very weird and definitely something to keep in mind if you normally run aspect correction on 320x200 gameplay footage like I do. :P * Turns out the floppy disk version has the same animated scenes at the end of each episode as the CD version. Mind you, the CD version still has nine episodes while the floppy version only has six. ;) * One "feature" older versions of the game had is something called "Apology Mode" where the game would emulate 16-colour EGA graphics and the framerate would die. This was meant to poke fun at Apogee and their games mostly being 16-colour EGA instead of 256-colour VGA... though Apogee wasn't exactly too thrilled about it... :P ------------------------------------------ Pixelmusement Website: http://www.pixelships.com ADG on Pixelmusement: http://www.pixelships.com/adg Alphabetical Index of ADG Episodes: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/index2.html
