Whew... this week's video took a bit of effort to make due to a lot of circumstances and as such, some of what was recorded is being pushed to next week. In any event, today's mix of digs is quite curious, starting with a darts game with mouse-based motion controls, followed by an extremely basic game about defeating enemies with bombs, finishing off with a platforming game which looks very promising and has some technically impressive screen scrolling, but has some VERY nasty ice physics in its first level. Also, just to better explain the tangent I kinda went on about map design later in the video: Since old computers had so much more RAM than gaming consoles an indie developer on a PC would often just make a fixed-width 2-dimensional array to hold the map data. This is incredibly simple but meant EVERY level had to conform to that size of map, restricting the kinds of level designs possible. On consoles, due to a lack of RAM, much more creative tricks were needed to store and utilize level data, which is why levels in console games tend to have much more flexible sizes since it was much harder to do it this way, but required out of necessity. :B Current Excavation: Softkey Shareware 2000 Hit Games This Week's Digs: - DOSGAMES\ARCADE\DARTS11 - DOSGAMES\ARCADE\BOMBOY - DOSGAMES\ARCADE2\PACKRAT ------------------------------------------ Patreon supporters pledging $8 or more per month are automatically on the dig team and can submit their folder selections!
