Today's Lesson: How to get absolutely TROLLED by a video game... o_o; Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Zork Nemesis, an adventure/puzzle game taking place in the Zork universe, developed by Zombie and published through Activision in 1996. I'd only played the demo version of this game as a kid and enjoyed every moment of it and somehow managed to make it all the way to 2021 without ever realizing that this game goes WAY off the rails, switching from a fun, fantasy experience steeped in alchemy, to a very dark and very disturbing run through some pretty twisted stuff. Sure, compared to some titles, this stuff is tame, but none of those titles hide their true intentions! ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * Here's the link to GOG if you want to get a digital copy of this game: https://www.gog.com/game/zork_nemesis_the_forbidden_lands/?pp=91dfde1d6e005e422f64a59776234f1f4c80b5e4 * Or if you'd prefer to get it on Steam, here's that link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/571060/Zork_Nemesis_The_Forbidden_Lands/ * For those with physical copies, the details to make it run fully installed to a hard disk or other device can be found at the following page. Apparently it's a little more complicated than just copying the files over, but not TOO egregious: http://www.kevinbecker.net/zorkguides/zn-win.html * So, I mentioned at one point that Zork takes place in a parallel universe which I THOUGHT was the case, but I'm having trouble finding that information again. Was I right about that or is there a different explanation as to why the world of Zork is similar to ours and yet not ours? * I left the interlacing intact because it's kind of odd how some videos in here are interlaced and some are not. Anything with live action is guaranteed to be interlaced, whereas everything else is kind of a 75/25 chance, leaning towards being interlaced. * One thing I didn't mention which is somewhat pertinent because it can be confusing is that anytime you read a book in this game, you only read a one or more pages as opposed to the whole thing, so sometimes what you're reading will get cut off or will start mid-paragraph. This is normal; you cannot access the missing text. :P * Another thing I forgot to mention is that no, nothing's wrong with the game when I turn the camera; The game HALVES the resolution of everything when the camera is turning, likely for performance reasons. Again, getting 15/16-bit colour working with any level of performance on a 486 wasn't exactly easy for the devs. :P ------------------------------------------ Pixelmusement Website: http://www.pixelships.com ADG on Pixelmusement: http://www.pixelships.com/adg Alphabetical Index of ADG Episodes: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/index2.html Kris' Patreon Page: https://www.patreon.com/kasick @Pixelmusement on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Pixelmusement
