Doing things slightly differently with this episode; let me know what you guys think! :)
In any case, today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at the DOS port of Mortal Kombat, developed by Midway themselves, the same as the original arcade game, but published through Acclaim in 1993.
Save for differences in screen resolution and colour depth, this is virtually an arcade perfect port of the original game and there's not really much I can say about it which zillions of other people haven't already said, so this video's less about covering the features of the game, or the controversy it stirred up, and more about just pointing out little technical bits I found amusing.

Additional Information and Corrections:
* If you'd like to get the first 3 Mortal Kombat DOS ports, head on over to this page on the GOG website:
https://www.gog.com/game/mortal_kombat_123/?pp=91dfde1d6e005e422f64a59776234f1f4c80b5e4
* I've learned that the MK1 release from GOG is actually a "2nd Edition" of the game in a sense which was part of a later compilation release. It has bug fixes compared to the original floppy disk release and has different audio support. I've also since found out that the original release used manual-based copy protection and has MIDI music instead of digitized music! Kinda explains the discrepancy on the MobyGames website...
* Turns out that Midway did NOT develop the DOS ports, it was instead done by Probe! This is pretty easy to miss since the Probe logo and references to them only show up VERY briefly when you start the game and otherwise their involvement is absent from everywhere else! :o
* No, Reptile is not playable in the original game. In fact, Reptile isn't really defined all that well by this point as when you DO figure out how to get him to show up, Reptile really doesn't have anything special going on save for having both Scorpion and Sub-Zero's movesets combined. :P
* I say the game supports joysticks down to a single button, but this was a mistake, it actually requires a minimum of a two-button joystick. When playing this way, you hold back to block, which totally changes the dynamics of playing the game!
