Not every popular game series nails the formula on the first try. Case in point: Today's Ancient DOS Game: Street Fighter, a fighting game original developed by Capcom for arcades in 1987 and later ported to a variety of computers and consoles, with the DOS port being done by Micro Talent in 1988.
While Street Fighter is quite the popular franchise now, it didn't start out that way. The original Street Fighter was mostly just an attempt to make a unique kind of game where the harder you smashed the buttons, the harder your character would hit the opponents, thus the balancing is way out of whack and there's zero emphasis on character variety or game balance.
I mean, it's not a terrible game, but then again, we're not playing the arcade version, we're playing the DOS version...

Additional Information and Corrections:
* Special thanks to Clint Basinger of LGR fame for lending his voice for a little bit of silly fun! For the maybe two or three of you watching who've never seen his vids, take a trip to his channel!
https://www.youtube.com/user/phreakindee
* It was really hard and finicky to point out each individual glitch as it happens, so many of the glitches I mention at the end you'll see sprinkled throughout the footage of the gameplay if you keep your eyes open.
* Irony: The license agreement and copyright details take up MORE SPACE in the "manual" than the actual gameplay instructions. :P
* Technically, Ryu was the one who won the original Street Fighting tournament, as far as the lore is concerned, and thus he would be the one to have scarred Sagat, but because the scar came from the tournament fight, and because you can get to that fight as Ken, as far as THIS GAME is concerned, either character could've left the scar! ...SEMANTICS! 8D
* Also the scar left on Sagat come SF2 was on his chest. Dunno how I mixed THAT up. :P
