So many different ways to win! ...probably too many, actually... Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Dominus, a real-time strategy game made by Visual Concepts Entertainment and published by U.S. Gold in 1994. Although relatively obscure, the production values are through the roof with this one, with exceptionally well done graphics and music and an insane amount of content... for what is ultimately a highly repetitive experience where you only have to pay attention to maybe 10% of that content to win. Combo that with some weird UI decisions and yeah... this was kind of tricky game to comment on. ------------------------------------------ Additional Information and Corrections: * So, when I was playing the game it was routinely switching between music tracks every time the situation changed or I wanted to do something, so I rarely listened to any specific songs for more than about 15 to 30 seconds. However, none of that was captured by DOSBox because I was playing back the real CD, not an image file, so when I went to record all the music to make this video I had a chance to listen to ALL of the music in the game in its entirety and discovered that a lot of it is actually extremely well done. It might be worth getting the CD just for the music! :O * Also, turns out the music is LICENSED, which explains a few things, like why YouTube's Content-ID system had a field day with this video. Oh well, no $8-ish for me this time around! :P (As of this writing, March 2020, that's about how much I make on ad rev per video.) * There's actually some pretty gory scenes which transpire when you eradicate a clan so be aware of that if you intend to play this game yourself. Most of the rest of the game has no gore at all thus why it was easy enough not to show that aspect of it and keep the video safe for all audiences to watch. :B * If anyone can solve the mystery as to if the game actually does have some sound effects or not, let me know. The manual and box say there are, the setup program suggests there is as well, but the game doesn't have a setting for turning sound on or off and all the gameplay I've looked up online lacked sound effects as well, plus no files are installed which appear to contain such effects, so... it's really hard to know for certain. ------------------------------------------ Pixelmusement Website: http://www.pixelships.com ADG on Pixelmusement: http://www.pixelships.com/adg Alphabetical Index of ADG Episodes: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/index2.html Kris' Patreon Page: https://www.patreon.com/kasick @Pixelmusement on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Pixelmusement
