Part of a wholesome, complete, nutritious breakfast! :D
Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Chex Quest, one of the more unusual titles to be released in the mid-90s thanks to Digital Cafe, Ralston Foods, and General Mills, as part of a six-week-long promotion where the game was included on a CD included for free in boxes of Chex Cereal.
This game is effectively Ultimate Doom, but with five brand new levels and everything else completely reskinned and reworked to be 100% family friendly. As far as advergames go, this is definitely one of the best ones out there so its no wonder its legacy has continued all the way up to today... though that said, it's ultimately nothing special as far as raw gameplay is concerned, just decent for what it is. :B

* And finally, to check out Chex Quest HD, head over here on Steam:

* One of the powerups I forgot to mention which made the cut are the backpacks which give you a little bit of all ammo types and doubles your ammo limits... which is easy to forget is a thing since the ammo counts aren't shown on the main interface in this game. (Neither are your available weapons come to think of it...)
* To answer the paradox as to how Chex could be one of my favourite cereals despite never having played this before until now, the answer is simple: Chex is a more RECENT favourite, as I first had it in the early 2000s, WELL after this promotion had been done. As a kid, my favourite cereals were a bit different, though Life has remained one of my favourites pretty much for most of my... well... life! ;D
